set_texture_sampler_settings

DestructiveIdempotent

Adjust an existing UTexture2D's sampler and LOD settings—address mode, filter, mip generation, LOD bias, max size, flip green—then save and verify the result.

Instructions

Sets sampler/LOD settings on an existing UTexture2D and saves it. Applies the requested fields, then PostEditChange + UpdateResource + save (no shader recompile), reading the resulting values back. Enum params accept the name with or without prefix: address_x/address_y in {Wrap,Clamp,Mirror}; filter in {Nearest,Bilinear,Trilinear,Default}; mip_gen_settings in {FromTextureGroup,SimpleAverage,NoMipmaps,LeaveExistingMips,Sharpen0..10,Blur1..5,Unfiltered,Angular}.

Returns: { texture_name, asset_path, address_x, address_y, filter, mip_gen_settings, lod_bias, max_texture_size, flip_green, changed: bool, saved: bool, *_warning?: string, save_error?: string }

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations declare destructive=true and idempotent=true, and the description goes well beyond that: it discloses the exact write pipeline (PostEditChange + UpdateResource + save), that no shader recompile occurs, that values are read back after applying, and that warnings/save_error can be returned. This is exactly the extra context annotations cannot carry.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core action, followed by behavioral mechanics and then enum vocabularies. It is dense and long, but each sentence (side effects, enum values, return shape) carries information an agent needs; little is wasted.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description supplies the return shape inline (changed/saved booleans, warning and save_error fields), plus the write pipeline and enum vocabularies. An agent has everything needed to call and interpret it correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so baseline is 3, but the description adds real value: it enumerates the valid enum literals for mip_gen_settings (which the schema leaves as a bare 'TextureMipGenSettings enum string') and discloses the prefix-optional acceptance rule for all three enum params.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: sets sampler/LOD settings on an existing UTexture2D and saves it. Scope is clear enough to act on. It does not explicitly distinguish itself from the sibling set_texture_settings, so it falls short of a 5.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The phrase 'on an existing UTexture2D' implies a precondition (asset must already exist), but there is no explicit when-to-use guidance, no comparison to set_texture_settings or import_texture_file, and no statement of when not to use it. Usage is only implied.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
