set_niagara_component_position

DestructiveIdempotent

Set a world-space Position override on a spawned Niagara component, then verify the value by reading it back. Use to position effects at exact coordinates in Unreal Engine.

Instructions

Sets a Position (FVector) override parameter on a spawned Niagara component. Resolves the UNiagaraComponent on the owner actor and calls SetVariablePosition, then reads it back via GetNiagaraVariablePosition.

Returns: { actor_name: string, variable_name: string, variable_type: string, set: bool, verified: bool, value_read_back: [number, number, number] }

TDQS

A3.7/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare non-read-only, idempotent, destructive, closed-world. The description adds real value on top: it explains the mechanism (SetVariablePosition followed by a GetNiagaraVariablePosition read-back) and surfaces the resulting 'verified'/'value_read_back' behavior, which the agent would not otherwise know.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Two tight sentences followed by a single return-shape line, with the core action front-loaded. No filler, though the return line is slightly verbose for an inline annotation.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description usefully documents the return object, and it explains the resolve-then-set-then-verify flow. It stops short of stating preconditions (owner must own a Niagara component) or the omitted-position behavior, but is nearly complete for this tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3. The description adds 'FVector' framing but nothing about the notable fact that 'position' is optional, nor what happens to the override when it is omitted — a gap the description could have closed.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (sets) and resource (Position/FVector override on a spawned Niagara component) and even names the underlying SetVariablePosition call. It distinguishes itself reasonably from the slew of sibling setters, though it never explicitly contrasts itself with near-neighbors like set_niagara_component_vector.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Implies context (an already-spawned Niagara component resolved on the owner actor) but gives no when-to-use vs when-not guidance and names no alternative tool. An agent can infer it is for a live component rather than an asset, but nothing is explicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
