add_skeletal_animation_track

Add a skeletal-animation track to a Level Sequence binding. Optionally load an animation to insert a section, or create an empty track.

Instructions

Adds a skeletal-animation track to a Level Sequence binding. If anim_path loads a UAnimSequenceBase (a UAnimMontage qualifies), a section is added starting at the playback range start; otherwise just the empty track.

Returns: { sequence_name: string, binding_guid: string, track_class: string, track_added: bool, anim_loaded: bool, section_added: bool, section_count: int, anim_path: string, saved: bool, save_error?: string }

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
anim_pathNoOptional content path of a UAnimSequenceBase or UAnimMontage, e.g. "/Game/Anims/MyAnim".
binding_guidYesGUID of an existing binding (typically a SkeletalMeshActor).
sequence_nameYesName of the target Level Sequence.

TDQS

A3.7/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare the write/idempotency/destructive profile, so the bar is lower, yet the description adds real context: the section is only created when the asset loads, it starts at the playback range start, and the returned 'saved'/'save_error' flags reveal that the sequence is persisted with possible failure. That is meaningful disclosure beyond the annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded behavioral sentence, followed by a return-shape block. The return block is long but justified because there is no output schema, so every listed field earns its place; the only minor cost is that the shape is verbose relative to the behavioral prose.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description correctly enumerates the return fields and explains the conditional track/section behavior, which is what an agent needs to interpret results. It stops short of noting prerequisites (the binding must already exist) or permissions, leaving a small gap for a mutation tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents all three parameters (anim_path, binding_guid, sequence_name). The description reinforces anim_path's optionality and accepted asset types but adds no syntax or format detail beyond the schema, which is the expected baseline when the schema carries the load.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Adds a skeletal-animation track to a Level Sequence binding') and explains the conditional outcome when anim_path resolves to a UAnimSequenceBase/UAnimMontage. It does not explicitly name or differentiate itself from nearby siblings such as add_anim_bone_track or set_skeletal_animation_section_params, so an agent must infer the boundary.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The verb implies the use case (attaching an animation track to an existing sequence binding), and the conditional hints that anim_path may be omitted for an empty track. But there is no explicit when-to-use / when-not guidance and no named alternative, so the agent gets implied rather than stated routing.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
