Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
project_idYesURL path parameter — unique identifier for the project.
idYesURL path parameter — unique identifier of the Daily Log resource
run_configurable_validationsNoQuery string parameter — if true, validations are run for the corresponding Configurable Field Set.
manpower_logYesJSON request body field — the manpower log for this Daily Log operation
attachmentsNoJSON request body field — manpower Log Attachments. To upload attachments you must upload the entire payload as `multipart/form-data` content-type and specify each parameter as form-data together with `attachments[]` as files.
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description adds value beyond annotations by specifying that only supplied fields are changed (partial update), returning the modified object, and providing a link for additional info on attachments and locations. Annotations are minimal, so the description carries the burden well.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is concise with five sentences, each adding value. It is front-loaded with the main purpose, then includes a helpful link, usage note, required parameters, and API info. No wasted words.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the tool's complexity (5 parameters, no output schema), the description covers core usage, required params, and points to external documentation for attachments and locations. It could be enhanced by clarifying that it pertains to the Daily Log module and distinguishing from other log types, but it is sufficient for an agent to use correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The input schema has 100% description coverage, so the baseline is 3. The description reiterates required parameters but does not add significant meaning beyond what the schema provides, such as explaining the structure of manpower_log or run_configurable_validations.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states it updates a single manpower log and specifies it modifies an existing Daily Log record with only supplied fields changed. It does not explicitly differentiate from sibling tools like create_manpower_log or delete_manpower_log, but the verb 'update' combined with the resource name makes the purpose clear.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description advises to use this tool to update existing Daily Log records and lists required parameters. However, it does not provide when-not-to-use guidance or mention alternatives, leaving some ambiguity about when to use this vs. other update tools for different log types.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
