Get All Equipment Categories (Project)

get_all_equipment_categories_project
Read-onlyIdempotent

Retrieve equipment categories for a project via Procore API. Get paginated list of equipment records with details.

Instructions

Get all equipment categories (Project). Use this to fetch the full details of a specific Equipment records by its identifier. Returns a paginated JSON array of Equipment records. Use page and per_page to control pagination; the response includes pagination metadata. Required parameters: per_page, project_id, company_id. Procore API (v2.0): Core > Equipment. Endpoint: GET /rest/v2.0/companies/{company_id}/projects/{project_id}/equipment_register_categories

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema

project_idYesURL path parameter — unique identifier for the project.
company_idYesURL path parameter — unique identifier for the company.
pageNoQuery string parameter — the page number to retrieve. Default is 1.
per_pageYesQuery string parameter — number of records per page
filters__is_activeNoQuery string parameter — filter results by is active
Behavior2/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already indicate readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false, etc. The description adds that it returns a paginated JSON array with pagination metadata and provides the endpoint. However, it incorrectly states that it returns Equipment records rather than equipment categories, and fails to mention the `filters__is_active` parameter or the fact that it lists categories. This factual error undermines transparency.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is relatively short but contains extraneous and misleading information (confusing categories with equipment records). It could be more focused and accurate. While not verbose, the errors detract from conciseness.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness2/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

The description mentions pagination but does not describe the response structure, the meaning of `filters__is_active`, or that the tool returns categories, not equipment. Given no output schema and 5 parameters, this omission leaves the agent without critical context to use the tool correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters2/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the input schema already documents all 5 parameters completely. The description adds no additional meaning beyond repeating that per_page, project_id, and company_id are required. It does not explain the `filters__is_active` parameter or provide usage context, so it provides little value beyond the schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose2/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The first sentence states 'Get all equipment categories (Project)', which aligns with the tool name and endpoint for categories. However, the second sentence contradicts this by saying 'fetch the full details of a specific Equipment records by its identifier,' which is inconsistent with the tool's actual purpose, as it returns a list of categories, not a single equipment record. This muddles the purpose.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines2/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description lists required parameters (per_page, project_id, company_id) but provides no guidance on when to use this tool versus its siblings, such as get_all_equipment_categories_company. It does not mention exclusions, context, or alternative tools.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
