List Task Item Categories

list_task_item_categories
Read-onlyIdempotent

Retrieve a paginated list of task item categories for a company project. Use to find category IDs or filter results.

Instructions

Returns a list of task item categories associated with the company. Use this to enumerate Tasks when you need a paginated overview, to find IDs, or to filter by query parameters. Returns a paginated JSON array of Tasks. Use page and per_page to control pagination; the response includes pagination metadata. Required parameters: company_id, project_id. Procore API: Core > Tasks. Endpoint: GET /rest/v1.0/companies/{company_id}/projects/{project_id}/task_item_categories

Input Schema

per_pageNoQuery string parameter — number of items per page (default: 100, max: 100)
viewNoQuery string parameter — view to use when generating json. Defaults to normal
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations declare readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint. Description adds pagination behavior (page/per_page, metadata) and endpoint info, adding value beyond annotations. No contradiction.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three sentences, front-loaded with purpose, then usage, then technical details. No fluff, every sentence adds value.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Covers purpose, usage, pagination, required parameters, and endpoint. Minor inconsistency: says 'Tasks' instead of 'task item categories' in the second sentence, which could confuse. Lacks explicit mention that response is an array of category objects, but output schema is absent.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so baseline is 3. Description mentions required params and pagination params but adds little beyond schema descriptions. It does not clarify the 'view' enum or other parameters in detail.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states it returns a list of task item categories and explains the use case (enumerate tasks, find IDs, filter). However, it does not differentiate from the many similar list tools among siblings.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Provides usage context (paginated overview, find IDs, filter) but lacks explicit when-not-to-use or alternatives. The description implies usage but does not guide selection among sibling tools.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
