Read-onlyIdempotent

Retrieve a paginated list of project stages for a specific user in a company. Use to obtain stage IDs or filter directory records by query parameters.

Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already indicate readOnly and idempotent hints. The description adds that it is a GET endpoint returning a paginated JSON array, mentions required parameters, and specifies the API path. This provides useful behavioral context beyond annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is concise, front-loading the primary purpose, and uses clear sentences without unnecessary words. It effectively communicates what the tool does and how to use it.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the tool has 5 parameters and no output schema, the description covers pagination, required parameters, and API context. It is complete for a list tool, providing necessary information for correct usage.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the description does not need to elaborate much. It mentions required parameters and pagination controls, but adds little meaning beyond what the schema already provides. Baseline score of 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states it returns a list of Project Stages for a specified user and enumerates Directory records. It provides specific use cases like obtaining a paginated overview, finding IDs, or filtering by query parameters, which distinguishes it from sibling list tools.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description advises to use this tool for enumerating Directory records with pagination and filtering. While it does not explicitly mention when not to use it or alternatives, the guidance on pagination and filtering is clear and helpful.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
