List Programs For A Company User

list_programs_for_a_company_user
Read-onlyIdempotent

Retrieve a paginated list of programs for a specified company user. Use to find program IDs or filter by query parameters.

Instructions

This endpoint returns the list of Programs for the specified User. Use this to enumerate Directory records when you need a paginated overview, to find IDs, or to filter by query parameters. Returns a paginated JSON array of Directory records. Use page and per_page to control pagination; the response includes pagination metadata. Required parameters: company_id, user_id. Procore API: Core > Directory. Endpoint: GET /rest/v1.0/companies/{company_id}/users/{user_id}/project_assignments/filter_options/programs

Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false, idempotentHint=true. The description adds pagination behavior (page, per_page, metadata) which is helpful but not extensive. No contradictions, but the description does not reveal additional behavioral traits beyond what annotations imply.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is concise (4 sentences) and front-loads the main purpose. Every sentence adds value: purpose, usage, pagination, required params, and API reference. No fluff.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given no output schema, the description covers the response type (paginated JSON array of Directory records) and pagination metadata. It also provides the endpoint URL. However, it does not explain the structure of a 'Directory record' or what a 'Program' is, but the title and context are sufficient for a simple list tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema covers 100% of parameters with descriptions, so baseline is 3. The description reiterates required params and page/per_page purpose but adds no new semantic information beyond the schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states it returns the list of Programs for a specified user, with a paginated overview to find IDs. It specifies the verb 'returns', the resource 'Programs', and the scope 'for the specified User', distinguishing it from generic list tools.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description provides some context on when to use it ('when you need a paginated overview, to find IDs, or to filter by query parameters') but does not mention when not to use it or any alternative tools (e.g., list_programs for all users). The guidance is implicit rather than explicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
