List Specification Sets

list_specification_sets
Read-onlyIdempotent

Retrieve a paginated list of specification sets for a project. Use to find IDs or filter by query parameters.

Instructions

List the Specification Sets in a Project. Use this to enumerate Specifications when you need a paginated overview, to find IDs, or to filter by query parameters. Returns a paginated JSON array of Specifications. Use page and per_page to control pagination; the response includes pagination metadata. Required parameters: project_id. Procore API: Project Management > Specifications. Endpoint: GET /rest/v1.0/projects/{project_id}/specification_sets

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
project_idYesURL path parameter — the ID of the project for the new set
pageNoQuery string parameter — page number for paginated results (default: 1)
per_pageNoQuery string parameter — number of items per page (default: 100, max: 100)
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already indicate read-only, non-destructive, idempotent behavior. The description adds valuable context about pagination (page and per_page), pagination metadata in response, and the required project_id, going beyond what annotations provide. No contradictions.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is only four sentences, each serving a purpose: stating purpose, usage, pagination details, and API context. No extraneous information; it is front-loaded and efficient.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a simple list tool with well-covered schema and annotations, the description adequately explains pagination, required parameters, and response type (paginated JSON array). It could optionally mention response structure or filtering, but is sufficiently complete for correct invocation.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% with descriptions for all three parameters. The description reinforces pagination usage and required status but adds little new meaning beyond what the schema already states. Baseline 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states 'List the Specification Sets in a Project' with specific verb and resource, and mentions use cases like enumeration, finding IDs, and filtering. However, it does not differentiate from sibling tools that may also list specification-related items.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description includes usage guidance ('Use this to enumerate Specifications when you need a paginated overview, to find IDs, or to filter by query parameters') but lacks explicit when-not-to-use or alternative tools, leaving the agent to infer from context.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
