TDQS

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations provided, the description carries the behavioral burden. It explains that the tool queries Fortune's public ranking source, returns every accepted year, and explicitly covers the 2023-2026 Fortune China 500 editions. It does not describe output ordering or formatting, but for a simple read-only list tool this is good transparency.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is two short sentences with the core verb and object front-loaded. The second sentence adds useful clarifying detail about accepted years and the China 500 editions without redundancy.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a tool with one optional parameter and no output schema, the description sufficiently explains what the tool returns and for which list scope. The return value is easy to infer as a list of years, and the example helps an agent know what to expect.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The only parameter, list, is already fully documented in the input schema with accepted values and a default; schema coverage is 100%. The description adds only the generic phrase 'selected list' and does not add any meaning beyond what the schema already provides.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description opens with 'List Fortune ranking years,' a clear verb+resource pairing, and then specifies the output: every year accepted for a selected list. This distinguishes the tool from sibling Fortune tools like fortune_ranking_lists or fortune_ranking_filters by focusing on the set of accepted years.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The phrase 'for a selected list' implies when the tool is useful, but it never names sibling Fortune ranking tools or explains when this tool should be preferred over fortune_ranking, fortune_ranking_lists, or fortune_ranking_filters. There is no explicit when-not-to-use guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
