set_session_midi_overdub

Destructive

Start or stop open-ended Session MIDI overdub on an already playing loop. Toggles global session_record while preserving playback, routing, and arms.

Instructions

Start or stop open-ended native Session MIDI overdub on the exact already playing loop. Toggles only global session_record with other explicit/implicit arms off and fresh guarded context. Keeps playback, routing and arms. Recording survives client disconnect; no fixed duration or automatic cleanup. May change same-pitch notes; copy the original first. Partial native work retained without rollback/replay. Control and clip-state observations do not prove a performance. Updated bridge; all profile.

  2. Addedv0.3.0

TDQS

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description adds substantial behavior beyond annotations: recording survives client disconnect, has no fixed duration or automatic cleanup, may alter same-pitch notes, and partial native work is retained without rollback/replay. These details directly support safe use of a destructive, non-idempotent tool.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded and most clauses carry important behavioral warnings. The description is dense and contains some opaque phrasing such as 'Updated bridge; all profile,' which slightly reduces clarity.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

It covers the main operational and safety characteristics of a complex destructive mutation, and an output schema exists for return values. However, it does not explain the guarded plan/token workflow for dryRun, planHash, and confirmationToken, which would help an agent invoke it correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents all seven parameters. The description clarifies start/stop semantics for the enabled toggle but does not add meaningful detail about expectedStateVersion, dryRun, planHash, or confirmationToken.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb and resource: start or stop native Session MIDI overdub on the already playing loop. It distinguishes this from broader recording tools by emphasizing open-ended overdub, playback preservation, and exact-loop targeting.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It clearly describes the operating context: toggling global session_record while other arms are off, with playback/routing/arms preserved. It also warns that control and clip-state observations do not prove a performance, but it does not explicitly name a sibling alternative such as get_session_midi_overdub_context.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
