finish_session_clip_hold

Destructive

Release a session clip hold handle to free its track reservation. Use cancel:true for early release or to retry a failed release.

Instructions

Release a terminal Session hold handle, or cancel:true to request early release of its retained native clip. Does not globally stop playback or stop a continuing Repeat clip. A failed release retains its handle and track reservation until an explicit cancel retry succeeds. Updated bridge; all profile.

Input Schema

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare destructive=true and idempotent=false, but the description adds important failure semantics: a failed release retains the handle and track reservation until an explicit cancel retry succeeds. It also clarifies the non-global scope of release, though it does not explain the token/hash execution flow.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The core release and cancel semantics are front-loaded and efficient. The trailing phrase 'Updated bridge; all profile.' is cryptic and does not clearly help an agent decide or invoke the tool.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

The definition covers the key mutation behavior, failure retention, and scope limits for a destructive hold-release tool with annotations and an output schema. It leaves the dryRun/planHash/confirmationToken workflow to the schema, which is acceptable given 100% schema coverage.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so all six parameters are already documented in the schema. The description reinforces cancel:true and retry behavior, but adds little parameter meaning beyond what the schema already provides.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb and resource: release a Session hold handle. It also clarifies the optional cancel:true behavior and distinguishes the tool from broader playback/repeat control by saying it does not globally stop playback or stop a continuing Repeat clip.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives clear usage context: release a terminal hold, use cancel:true for early release, and use cancel as a retry after a failed release. It also states what the tool does not do, but it does not explicitly name sibling alternatives such as hold_session_clip or get_session_clip_hold.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
