**Outcome**: ✅ Both objectives completed and merged
## Session Summary

Both PRs approved and merged to develop with zero rework required.
## Work Completed
### Part 1: Issue #1225 - SonarCloud S7758 String Method Modernization
**PR**: [#1234](https://github.com/DollhouseMCP/mcp-server/pull/1234)
**Duration**: ~30 minutes (exactly matched estimate)
#### Approach
1. Queried SonarCloud API for exact issue locations
2. Created feature branch from develop
3. Analyzed each of 6 instances individually
4. Fixed 4 instances, identified 2 false positives
5. Built and tested thoroughly
6. Committed with comprehensive PR description
#### Changes Made
**Fixed Instances (4)**:
1. `MemoryManager.ts:172` - `charCodeAt` → `codePointAt` (whitespace detection)
2. `logger.ts:42` - `fromCharCode` → `fromCodePoint` ('oauth' pattern)
3. `logger.ts:81` - `fromCharCode` → `fromCodePoint` ('api' pattern)
4. `redos-pathological-inputs.test.ts:46` - `fromCharCode` → `fromCodePoint` (test data)
**False Positives (2)**:
5. `unicodeValidator.ts:333` - Requires `charCodeAt` for surrogate detection
6. `unicodeValidator.ts:341` - Requires `charCodeAt` for surrogate pairing
#### Key Decisions
**Why False Positives Were Correct**:
- `codePointAt()` automatically combines valid surrogate pairs
- Security validation needs raw 16-bit code units
- Must detect *malformed* pairs, not just read valid ones
- Documented in code with explanatory comments
- Marked in SonarCloud with detailed justification
**Comment Improvement** (user suggestion):
- Initial: "built from char codes"
- Improved: "char codes prevent CodeQL false positive"
- Explains *why*, not just *what*

## Challenges and Solutions
### Challenge 1: TypeScript Undefined Errors
**Problem**: Initial `codePointAt()` conversion caused TypeScript errors because it can return `undefined`.
**Solution**: Started with non-null assertions (`!`), then realized this was wrong context.
**Lesson**: When TypeScript complains, investigate the actual requirement, don't just assert.
### Challenge 2: Unicode Test Failures
**Problem**: After converting to `codePointAt`, 3 tests failed on surrogate pair detection.
**Root Cause**: Code specifically needs 16-bit code units to detect *malformed* pairs.
**Solution**: Reverted changes, documented as false positives with technical justification.
**Lesson**: Not all modern methods are appropriate in all contexts. Security code often has legitimate reasons for "legacy" approaches.
### Challenge 3: Comment Quality Feedback
**Problem**: User noticed comments explained *what* but not clearly *why*.
**Feedback**: "Did you add a brief comment in the logger explaining why character codes are used?"
**Solution**: Updated from "built from char codes" to "char codes prevent CodeQL false positive"
**Lesson**: Good comments explain rationale, not just description. The code shows what; comments should explain why.
### Challenge 4: GitFlow Compliance
**Problem**: Attempted to commit workflow docs directly to develop.
**GitFlow Guardian**: Blocked the commit with clear instructions.
**Solution**: Created feature branch, committed properly, PR'd to develop.
**Lesson**: GitFlow Guardian works! Prevents mistakes even when moving quickly.

### Technical Learnings
1. **Unicode Methods Context-Dependent**
- `codePointAt()` isn't always better than `charCodeAt()`
- Security validation needs raw code units
