build_effects_chain

Sequentially load multiple effects onto a track with configurable delays between each effect load.

Instructions

Load multiple effects onto a track in sequence via ClyphX Pro. Each effect load requires a delay for Ableton to initialize it.

Parameters:

  • track_number: Track number (1-based, ClyphX indexing)

  • effects: List of effect names, e.g., ["Auto Filter", "Reverb", "Chorus", "Saturator"]

  • delay_between: Seconds to wait between effect loads (default 0.5)

Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

No annotations are provided, so the description bears full responsibility. It explains the sequential loading with delays and ClyphX indexing, but doesn't disclose side effects like whether effects are appended or replaced, or error handling.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is concise with three sentences plus parameter list, front-loading the purpose without wasted words.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the tool's moderate complexity and lack of annotations, the description covers core behavior and parameters but omits mentions of output schema, error handling, and prerequisites like track existence. It could better differentiate from similar siblings.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

With 0% schema description coverage, the description adds meaning to all three parameters: track_number (1-based, ClyphX indexing), effects (list with example), and delay_between (default 0.5). It provides context beyond the bare schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the tool loads multiple effects onto a track sequentially via ClyphX Pro, specifying the resource (track) and action (load effects). It distinguishes from siblings like 'load_device' which loads a single device.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description mentions that each effect load requires a delay, implying when to use delays, but it doesn't explicitly guide when to use this tool over alternatives such as 'load_device' or 'clyphx_device_action'.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
