Set Privacy Mode

set_privacy_mode
Idempotent

Control session privacy by masking PII like emails and names in tool responses. Choose from disabled, auto, or strict modes to protect sensitive data.

Instructions

Toggle per-session PII privacy mode. When enabled, tool responses have sensitive values (emails, names, phone numbers) replaced with [PRIVATE:token_N] tokens. Requires authenticated session (OAuth or per-user API key).

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
modeYesPrivacy mode to set for this session: 'disabled' (no masking), 'auto' (mask PII identity fields + email patterns), 'strict' (mask all string values).
mask_contentNoWhen true, also mask content fields (snippet, subject, body, text, description, summary, web_url, attendees, location). Default true when mode is 'auto'. Has no effect when mode is 'strict' (everything is already masked) or 'disabled'.
additional_fieldsNoComma-separated extra field names to treat as PII for this session (e.g. 'customField1,notes'). Merged with built-in patterns.
user_google_emailNoAuto-injected by middleware. Not used by this tool.

Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations indicate idempotentHint=true and destructiveHint=false, and the description adds that sensitive values are replaced with tokens. No contradictions. The description provides additional behavioral context beyond annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Two sentences with no wasted words. The purpose is front-loaded, and the format is concise and efficient.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the simplicity of the tool, the description covers auth requirements, privacy levels, and effect. Output schema exists, so return values are covered. Complete for a configuration tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3. The description adds little beyond 'when enabled' but does not repeat schema details. The schema already adequately describes parameters.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the tool toggles per-session PII privacy mode, specifying the behavior when enabled. It distinguishes from siblings by being a unique configuration tool for privacy, with no similar tool in the list.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description mentions the prerequisite of an authenticated session (OAuth or per-user API key), providing clear context for when to use. It does not explicitly state when not to use or name alternatives, but the context is sufficient.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
