## Technical Implementation
**Architecture:**
- Pure Python implementation
- CSV parsing for CFTC data
- Fallback mock data when live data unavailable
- Error handling with graceful degradation
**Dependencies:**
- requests (HTTP client)
- csv (standard library)
- datetime (standard library)
- json (standard library)
**Data Refresh:**
- Weekly (Friday 3:30 PM ET)
- Historical archives available back to 2000
## Future Enhancements
1. **Live CFTC API Integration:** Parse actual CFTC CSV files from archives
2. **Historical Percentile Calculation:** Real 3-year positioning percentiles
3. **Chart Visualization:** Plot positioning trends over time
4. **Alert System:** Notify when extreme positioning detected
5. **Backtest Framework:** Test reversal signals against historical price data
## Notes
- COT reports published every Friday with Tuesday close data
- 3-day lag between market close and report publication
- Most reliable for liquid, exchange-traded futures
- Commercial positioning often leading indicator (hedgers know their business)
