Update Wiki page

wiki_pages_update
Idempotent

Update a wiki page by numeric ID, changing only the fields you provide; content replaces the full text, so use append to add text.

Instructions

Change a wiki page by numeric id: only the fields set in body change.

body.content REPLACES the whole text — to add to an existing page use pages_append instead. The Wiki API updates via POST, not PATCH (PATCH returns 405); the SDK already handles that quirk. Repeating the same call yields the same page state (idempotent). E.g. {"page_id": 7, "body": {"title": "New name"}}.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
bodyYesTyped request body for ``POST /pages/{id}``: only the fields set are changed. A page's address is not among them: :class:`PageMove` renames or relocates a page.
fieldsNoExtra blocks to include in the reply (CSV), e.g. ``content, attributes``.
page_idYesNumeric id of the page to update.
is_silentNoDo not notify the page's subscribers.
allow_mergeNoMerge with a concurrent edit (3-way merge) instead of failing.

TDQS

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations by warning that body.content REPLACES the whole text, disclosing the POST-not-PATCH quirk (PATCH returns 405), and clarifying idempotency with a concrete example. The content-overwrite warning is a critical behavioral trait not captured by the destructiveHint=false/idempotentHint=true annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core action and partial-update rule, followed by the key caveat and alternative. It is dense with backtick/code formatting, and the POST-vs-PATCH implementation quirk is arguably internal detail, but overall each sentence carries useful information.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 5-param, nested-object mutation with no output schema, the description covers the essential risks (content replacement), routing (pages_append), and semantics (partial update, idempotency). Remaining details such as merge/silent behavior are left entirely to the 100%-covered schema, which is acceptable.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so parameters like page_id, fields, is_silent, and allow_merge are already fully documented and need no description support. The description mostly restates the schema's partial-update and content-replacement semantics rather than adding new parameter-level meaning, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Change a wiki page by numeric id') and immediately scopes it as a partial update: 'only the fields set in body change.' It also names a sibling (pages_append) so the agent can distinguish it from the append operation without reading either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly routes one case to an alternative: 'to add to an existing page use pages_append instead,' with the condition attached. It does not, however, address other adjacent operations such as renaming/relocating (which the schema notes belongs to PageMove), so guidance is clear but not exhaustive.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
