DebugBatchBegin

Starts a numbered debugger batch on a stopped ABAP debuggee or AMDP break, records step, stack, variable, and continue actions, and returns a state_handle for subsequent batch calls.

Instructions

[read-only] [debug] Starts the debugger batch on the stopped ABAP debuggee, else at the AMDP break. In the debugger batch each call of step, step to line, stack, variables, child variables, stack position or setting a variable at the ABAP debuggee, and of step over, continue or the data preview of a table variable at the AMDP break, is recorded under the next number, starting at 1, and answers with empty content. Answers the state_handle: over Streamable HTTP send it as the state_handle argument of every call of the batch (or in the x-mcp-state-handle header).

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations provided, the description carries the full burden and does well: it discloses that recorded calls return empty content, that recording starts at 1, and that the tool returns a state_handle with instructions for Streamable HTTP. It does not cover whether the debuggee state changes or how to stop the batch, but the core behavioral traits are clear.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is front-loaded with the main action and every sentence carries relevant information. However, the second sentence is long and nested, making it harder to parse quickly; a more structured format would improve readability.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a zero-parameter tool with no output schema, the description is fairly complete: it explains the start condition, the recording behavior, the empty responses, and the state_handle return. It could mention how to end the batch or what the recorded numbers are used for, but it covers enough to invoke the tool correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The tool has zero input parameters, so the baseline is 4. The description adds useful context about the state_handle returned and how to pass it in subsequent calls, though this is not an input parameter for this tool itself.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: 'Starts the debugger batch on the stopped ABAP debuggee, else at the AMDP break.' This clearly distinguishes it from siblings like DebugBatchEnd and BatchBegin by naming the exact debug context and starting action.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description implies usage by explaining that calls made during the batch are recorded, but it does not explicitly say when to choose this over alternatives like DebugStep or AmdpDebugStep, nor does it state prerequisites beyond the debuggee being stopped.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
