set_setting

Override Bambu Studio project and filament settings by key and value, including temperatures, layer height, infill density, and support options, with an optional filament slot.

Instructions

Override a project setting. For filament settings (temperatures, plate temperatures...) slot = filament slot (0 = all slots). Values are Bambu Studio strings, e.g. '0.16', '15%', '65'. Useful keys: layer_height, wall_loops, sparse_infill_density, top_shell_layers, enable_support, brim_type, initial_layer_speed, ironing_type, textured_plate_temp(_initial_layer) for Textured PEI, hot_plate_temp(_initial_layer) for the smooth/High Temp plate, nozzle_temperature(_initial_layer), close_fan_the_first_x_layers, print_sequence ('by object'), curr_bed_type ('Textured PEI Plate').

TDQS

A3.5/5.0
Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, the description carries the full burden and does disclose that the action overrides an existing setting and that slot=0 affects all filament slots for filament settings. It does not mention persistence, reversibility, permission prerequisites, side effects, or what an agent should expect after the call, leaving meaningful behavioral gaps for a mutation tool.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded in the first sentence and the rest is dense but mostly relevant. The long semicolon-separated key list is useful but somewhat run-on and could be organized more clearly.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given no annotations, no output schema, and 0% schema description coverage, the description provides enough to attempt common setting overrides and explains value formats and slot usage. It still leaves out prerequisites, persistence/reversibility behavior, and sibling-tool routing, so it is only minimally complete for a mutation tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0%, so the description must compensate, and it substantially does: it explains slot semantics for filament settings, gives Bambu Studio value string examples, and lists many useful keys. The key explanation is still a non-exhaustive sample list rather than a complete definition, and non-filament slot behavior is not described.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

It states a specific verb+resource: override a project setting, with concrete examples of filament and print settings. However, it does not explicitly distinguish itself from close siblings such as set_object_setting, set_plate_settings, set_filament, or edit_preset.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Usage is implied by 'Override a project setting' and by the instruction that filament settings use the slot parameter, with 0 meaning all slots. But there is no explicit when-to-use guidance, no exclusions, and no reference to alternatives like get_setting, reset_setting, or edit_preset.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
