Either PROXMOX_TOKEN_NAME + PROXMOX_TOKEN_VALUE or PROXMOX_PASSWORD is required for authentication.
When TOOL_ROUTING is set to true, the server uses manifest-backed semantic tool routing. MCP clients only see 3 tools — route_tools, call_routed_tool, and proxmox_api_raw — while domain tool modules are imported and registered lazily only when call_routed_tool invokes one of their tools. Use route_tools with a natural-language query to find relevant tools, then invoke them via call_routed_tool. This significantly reduces LLM context usage and routed-mode startup work. Requires the router extra (pip install proxmox-mcp-server[router]). Docker images include this extra.
Set ROUTER_TOP_K to control how many candidate tools route_tools returns. Lower values save more response context; higher values improve recall for broad queries.
Set PROXMOX_READ_ONLY=true to block all non-GET Proxmox API operations. Set PROXMOX_DISABLE_RAW_API=true to keep the generic proxmox_api_raw escape-hatch visible but unavailable at runtime.
