**Details**:
- #1: The current `cleanup()` removes exit/close/error listeners but leaves stdout/stderr data listeners attached. Add safe cleanup for these streams.
- #2: The timeout handler rejects without cleanup, leaving listeners attached on timeout. Should call `cleanup()` first.
