get_forum_discussions

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true and openWorldHint=true, so safety is covered elsewhere; the description adds nothing further. It is silent on whether results are paginated, sorted, truncated, or how large a forum's thread list can be, which is real behavioral context an agent would want.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

One front-loaded sentence with no filler. It is efficient, though the brevity leaves gaps that the other dimensions penalize rather than being a structure problem itself.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists so return values need not be explained, and it is a simple one-parameter list tool. Still, for an openWorld read against a live forum, missing notes on result volume, ordering, or forum-type limitations leave it only minimally adequate.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and the single forum_id parameter is documented with a usage hint ('e.g. from list_forums'). The description contributes no additional parameter meaning, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('List discussion threads') and bounds the scope to 'one standard Moodle forum,' which implicitly separates it from get_discussion_posts (posts inside a thread) and list_forums (forum inventory). It doesn't name those siblings explicitly, but the resource is unambiguous.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The phrase 'one standard Moodle forum' hints that non-standard forum types (Q&A, single-discussion) may not be covered, and the schema points to list_forums for obtaining an id, but the description never says when to prefer get_discussion_posts or what to do for other forum types. Usage is implied rather than stated.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
