My Paper Research MCP

A personal MCP server that searches and retrieves papers from PubMed and summarizes/interprets them with Claude.

Features

  • search_papers — Search PubMed by keyword (+year range). Since these are actual PubMed results, every paper shown is real.

  • get_paper_detail — Retrieve the full abstract by PMID

  • summarize_paper — Summarize and interpret the abstract of a PMID in Korean (Purpose/Methods/Results/Clinical significance)

Setup Steps (4 steps in the photo)

1. What to build — Done

This code is the result.

2. Prepare free accounts

  • GitHub account (https://github.com) — sign up for free if you don't have one

  • Vercel account (https://vercel.com) — you can sign up right away with your GitHub account

  • (To use the summary feature) Get an API key from Anthropic Console: https://console.anthropic.com

    • The PubMed search/retrieval features (search_papers, get_paper_detail) work for free without an API key.

3. Upload the code and connect to Vercel

cd paper-research-mcp
git init
git add .
git commit -m "init"
gh repo create paper-research-mcp --public --source=. --push
# (gh CLI 없으면 GitHub 웹에서 새 저장소 만들고 git remote add origin ... 후 git push)

Then go to vercel.com → "Add New Project" → select the GitHub repository you just created → Deploy.

Set environment variables (Vercel project → Settings → Environment Variables):

  • ANTHROPIC_API_KEY = the key you obtained (required to use summarize_paper)

4. Connect the deployed URL to the connector

After deployment, append /api/mcp to the URL that appears. Example: https://paper-research-mcp-xxxx.vercel.app/api/mcp

Register this URL in the connector (MCP) settings screen of the Claude app/desktop and you're ready to use it.
