nable (finops-mcp)

publish_cost_report_to_notion

Run a full cost audit and publish the results to your team's Notion page, giving finance and engineering a shared cost view without needing a separate dashboard.

Instructions

Runs the full cost audit and publishes results to your team's Notion page.

The Notion page can be shared with anyone on the team, they don't need nable installed. Use this to give leadership, finance, and engineering leads a shared cost view without a separate dashboard.

Requires NOTION_API_KEY and NOTION_PAGE_ID environment variables. Set them with: finops setup notion

Use when: - "Share the cost report with my team" - "Publish this to Notion" - "Update the team dashboard" - "Post the cost summary to Notion"

Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, description partially captures behavior: runs audit, publishes to Notion, shares env vars. Lacks details on idempotency, response, or side effects.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Reasonably concise with main action upfront and bullet list. Some redundancy (e.g., 'Set them with: finops setup notion' is helpful but could be trimmed).

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Covers main purpose and usage context, but ignores the parameter. Output schema exists but not described. Acceptable for a simple tool, but parameter omission hurts completeness.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters1/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Single parameter 'regions' not explained in description. Schema cover 0%, so description should clarify but does not. Falls far short.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Clearly states it runs full cost audit and publishes to Notion. Distinct from sibling audit/report tools by targeting Notion publication.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Provides explicit 'Use when:' examples and mentions required environment variables. Does not specify when not to use or alternatives, but the examples are clear.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
