Remove, clear or open entries in the download list

browser_download_manage
Destructive

Clear finished downloads, remove entries, open files, or reveal them in Firefox to manage download history and access downloaded content.

Instructions

The management half of downloads that browser_list_downloads and set_download_state do not cover. MEASURED: the service comes from resource://gre/modules/Downloads.sys.mjs as Downloads.getList(Downloads.ALL), and that list has remove(item) / removeFinished(filter) / getAll() / add(). NOTE: Services.downloads does not exist in this build, so always go through Downloads.getList.

TDQS

A4.4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description provides deep technical context by citing the underlying source code module (`resource://gre/modules/Downloads.sys.mjs`) and specific methods like `remove(item)` and `removeFinished(filter)`. This technical insight helps an agent understand the constraints of the operation, even though annotations already flag it as destructive.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is efficient and highly focused on its functional scope. While the technical meta-commentary ('MEASURED', 'NOTE') adds bulk, it is all necessary to prevent confusion with other tools and defines the boundaries accurately.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the annotations (destructive/non-read-only) and high schema coverage, the description is maximally complete. It addresses the 'why' and 'how it fits' for this tool, providing essential context for an agent deciding between several related download management tools.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Since schema description coverage is 100%, the schema already provides complete semantic information for the parameters (action and index). The description does not offer any additional meaningful context beyond the general usage defined in the title.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The tool title and description clearly define its purpose as managing (removing, clearing, or opening) download entries. It excels by explicitly stating that it covers the 'management half' of downloads, a concept that immediately differentiates it from listing or setting states.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Usage is exceptionally clear. The description provides explicit boundaries by referencing and contrasting itself with specific sibling tools: `browser_list_downloads` and `browser_set_download_state`. This tells the agent exactly when *not* to use it.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
