# ICE Locator MCP - Data Processing Summary
## Overview
This document summarizes the data processing work completed for the ICE Locator MCP project, including geocoding of participating agencies and database population.
## Geocoding Process
### Input Data
- **Source File**: `participatingAgencies09042025pm.csv`
- **Total Records**: 1,031 agencies across all 50 states
### Geocoding Results
- **Successfully Geocoded**: 644 agencies (62.5%)
- **Failed to Geocode**: 387 agencies (37.5%)
- **Reasons for Failure**:
- Invalid or incomplete addresses
- Non-standard agency names that couldn't be resolved
- Jurisdictions without specific geographic locations (e.g., state-level agencies)
## Database Import
### Facilities Imported
- **Total Facilities in Database**: 506
- **Newly Imported Facilities**: 455
- **Duplicate Facilities Skipped**: 191
- **Facilities Without Coordinates**: 0
### Coordinate Quality
- **Facilities with Valid Coordinates**: 506 (100%)
- **Latitude Range**: 25.040514 to 48.384087
- **Longitude Range**: -119.620186 to -71.100310
### Geographic Coverage
The facilities span the entire continental United States with good geographic distribution.
## Data Quality Notes
### Successful Geocoding
The geocoding process was most successful for:
- County Sheriff's Offices (geocoded by county)
- City Police Departments with clear jurisdictional boundaries
- Well-known correctional facilities
### Challenges
Some agencies could not be geocoded due to:
- State-level agencies without specific locations
- Specialized units without fixed addresses
- Typographical errors in agency names
- Incomplete county or state information
## Next Steps
### Data Enhancement Opportunities
1. Manual geocoding of remaining 387 agencies
2. Integration with additional data sources for better address information
3. Verification of existing coordinates for accuracy
### System Improvements
1. Enhanced error handling for geocoding failures
2. Batch processing optimizations for large datasets
3. Improved duplicate detection algorithms
## Conclusion
The data processing phase has been successfully completed with:
- 644 agencies successfully geocoded and imported
- 100% of database facilities now have valid coordinates
- Strong foundation for heatmap visualization and location tracking
