# Supabase MCP Server Project ## Overview This project aims to create a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Supabase integration with Cursor IDE. The MCP server will enable Cursor to interact with Supabase services directly, providing enhanced development capabilities. ## Goals - Create a Python-based MCP server that interfaces with Supabase - Enable Cursor to perform Supabase operations (database queries, authentication, etc.) - Provide real-time database introspection and management capabilities - Support common Supabase operations through Cursor's interface ## Technical Stack - **Language:** Python 3.9+ - **Supabase Client:** `supabase-py` - **Web Framework:** FastAPI - **Database:** PostgreSQL (via Supabase) - **Testing:** pytest - **Documentation:** Sphinx - **Code Quality:** black, flake8, mypy ## Architecture ``` supabase-mcp/ ├── src/ │ ├── server/ # MCP server implementation │ ├── supabase/ # Supabase client wrapper │ └── models/ # Data models and schemas ├── tests/ # Test suite ├── docs/ # Documentation └── scripts/ # Utility scripts ``` ## Key Components 1. **MCP Server** - FastAPI-based server implementing MCP protocol - Handles Cursor IDE requests - Manages Supabase connections 2. **Supabase Client** - Wrapper around supabase-py - Handles authentication and connection management - Provides typed interfaces for Supabase operations 3. **Database Introspection** - Schema inspection and validation - Table structure analysis - Query optimization suggestions 4. **Authentication Handler** - Manages Supabase authentication - Handles token refresh and session management - Provides secure credential storage ## Development Guidelines - Follow PEP 8 style guide - Use type hints throughout - Write comprehensive docstrings - Maintain test coverage > 80% - Document all public APIs ## Security Considerations - Secure credential storage - Environment-based configuration - Rate limiting and request validation - Error handling and logging ## Future Enhancements - Real-time database monitoring - Query optimization suggestions - Schema migration tools - Backup and restore capabilities
