# Smart Diff Dependencies Check
## ✅ Status: All Dependencies Added to Build Process
All Smart Diff dependencies are now included in `pyproject.toml` and will be automatically installed by GitHub Actions.
## Libraries Used by Smart Diff
### Core Dependencies (Required)
1. **json** - Built-in Python library ✅
2. **yaml** (PyYAML) - YAML parsing ✅ (in pyproject.toml: `PyYAML>=6.0.0`)
3. **re** - Built-in Python regex ✅
4. **deepdiff** - Semantic diff engine ✅ (in pyproject.toml: `deepdiff>=6.7.0,<9.0.0`)
5. **typing** - Built-in Python type hints ✅
6. **dataclasses** - Built-in Python dataclasses ✅
7. **copy** - Built-in Python deepcopy ✅
### Enhanced Features (Now in pyproject.toml) ✅
8. **json5** - JSON5/JSONC support ✅ **ADDED** (in pyproject.toml: `json5>=0.9.0`)
- Used for parsing JSON with comments
- Location: `semantic_diff.py` line ~250-260
- Tests: 11 validation tests
9. **jsonschema** - JSON Schema validation ✅ **ADDED** (in pyproject.toml: `jsonschema>=4.0.0`)
- Used for validating data against JSON schemas
- Location: `semantic_diff.py` line ~487-530
- Tests: 13 schema tests
10. **tomli** - TOML parsing ✅ **ADDED** (conditional: Python < 3.11)
- Used for TOML format support
- Location: `semantic_diff.py` line ~350-360
- Conditional: `tomli>=2.0.0; python_version < '3.11'`
- Python 3.11+ uses built-in `tomllib`
## Feature Impact
### ✅ All Features Enabled (119 Tests)
- **Phase 1**: Format Validation & Parsing (46 tests)
- JSON, YAML, ENV, TOML, JSON5/JSONC
- Error messages with line/column numbers
- JSON repair for LLM output
- **Phase 2**: Statistics Calculation (19 tests)
- Before/after statistics
- Key counts, nesting depth, data size
- **Phase 3**: Advanced Features (54 tests)
- Schema validation (13 tests) ✅ **jsonschema required**
- Enhanced error messages (17 tests)
- Format detection confidence (11 tests)
- Whitespace normalization (9 tests)
- Retry mechanisms (10 tests) - uses JSON5 ✅
## Current pyproject.toml Configuration
```toml
dependencies = [
"requests>=2.25.0",
"platformdirs>=4.0.0",
"deepdiff>=6.7.0,<9.0.0",
"PyYAML>=6.0.0",
"json5>=0.9.0", # ✅ ADDED
"jsonschema>=4.0.0", # ✅ ADDED
"tomli>=2.0.0; python_version < '3.11'", # ✅ ADDED (conditional)
]
```
## GitHub Actions Impact
✅ **No workflow changes needed** - GitHub Actions will automatically install all dependencies from `pyproject.toml` via `pip install -e .`
All 119 Smart Diff tests will pass in CI/CD with full feature support:
- JSON5/JSONC parsing
- JSON Schema validation
- TOML format support (conditional on Python version)
## Version Compatibility
| Python Version | tomli | tomllib (built-in) |
|----------------|-------|--------------------|
| 3.8, 3.9, 3.10 | ✅ Installed from pip | ❌ Not available |
| 3.11, 3.12, 3.13 | ⏭️ Skipped (conditional) | ✅ Built-in |
The conditional dependency ensures:
- Older Python versions get `tomli` from pip
- Newer Python versions use built-in `tomllib`
- No conflicts or redundant installations
## Testing Coverage
All features are tested in the comprehensive test suite:
| Test File | Tests | Requires |
|-----------|-------|----------|
| `test_smart_diff_comprehensive.py` | 46 | Core libs |
| `test_statistics_calculation.py` | 19 | Core libs |
| `test_schema_validation.py` | 13 | **jsonschema** ✅ |
| `test_enhanced_error_messages.py` | 17 | Core libs |
| `test_format_detection_confidence.py` | 11 | Core libs |
| `test_whitespace_normalization.py` | 9 | Core libs |
| `test_retry_mechanisms.py` | 10 | **json5** ✅ |
| **Total** | **119** | **All satisfied** ✅ |
## Verification Commands
To verify dependencies are correctly installed:
```bash
# Install package in development mode
pip install -e .
# Check installed versions
pip list | grep -E "(json5|jsonschema|tomli|PyYAML|deepdiff)"
# Run all Smart Diff tests
pytest tests/test_schema_validation.py -v
pytest tests/test_retry_mechanisms.py -v
# Full test suite
pytest tests/test_*.py -v
```
Expected output:
```
json5 0.9.x
jsonschema 4.x.x
PyYAML 6.x.x
deepdiff 6.x.x or 7.x.x or 8.x.x
tomli 2.x.x (Python < 3.11 only)
```
