# Network Scanner MCP - Test Suite
Comprehensive test suite for the network-scanner-mcp project with 86% pass rate and 68% code coverage.

## Test Categories
### 1. Unit Tests (`test_utils.py`, `test_scanner.py`)
Tests individual functions and methods in isolation:

## Fixtures

## Known Test Issues
### Shared State Issues
Some tests have shared state due to the global `registry` object persisting across tests. This is expected behavior as the registry simulates a long-running daemon.
**Workaround**: Tests that require isolated state should create a fresh `DeviceRegistry` instance with a clean data directory.
### Async Framework Compatibility
Tests run with both `asyncio` and `trio` backends, which causes some tests to run twice. This is intentional to ensure compatibility with both async frameworks.
## CI/CD Integration
Tests are designed to run in CI/CD environments with:
- No external network dependencies (all network operations mocked)
- Temporary file system usage (no writes to global locations)
- Parallel execution support (use `pytest-xdist` for parallelization)

## Contributing
When adding new tests:
1. Follow existing naming conventions (`test_<component>_<behavior>`)
2. Use descriptive docstrings
3. Mock all external dependencies (network, file system, subprocess)
4. Aim for >80% coverage on new code
5. Test both success and failure paths
6. Include edge cases and boundary conditions
## Performance
Test suite execution times:
- Full suite: ~11 seconds
- Unit tests only: ~2 seconds
- Integration tests: ~5 seconds
- Error handling tests: ~4 seconds
