## MCP Client Integration
### Cursor IDE Configuration
**File**: Cursor settings or `~/.cursor/mcp.json`
**Node.js Direct:**
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"overseer": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/absolute/path/to/overseer-mcp/dist/server.js"],
"env": {
"OVERSEER_BASE_PATH": "~/dev"
}
}
}
}
```
**Docker:**
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"overseer": {
"command": "docker",
"args": [
"run", "-i", "--rm",
"-v", "~/dev:/root/dev:ro",
"-v", "/absolute/path/to/overseer-mcp/config:/app/config:ro",
"freqkflag/overseer-mcp:latest"
]
}
}
}
```
### Claude Desktop Configuration
**File**: `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json` (macOS)
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"overseer": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/absolute/path/to/overseer-mcp/dist/server.js"]
}
}
}
```
## Demo Scenario: `sample-web-app`
### Step 1: Plan Project
**Tool**: `overseer.plan_project`
**Input:**
```json
{
"repo_root": "~/dev/sample-web-app",
"project_name": "sample-web-app",
"project_summary": "A modern web application with React frontend and Node.js API backend",
"overwrite_existing": false
}
```
**Result:**
- Creates `PHASES.md` with 5 phases
- Generates `PHASE-01.md` through `PHASE-05.md`
- Infers phases from repository structure
### Step 2: Run Phase 01
**Tool**: `overseer.run_phase`
**Input:**
```json
{
"repo_root": "~/dev/sample-web-app",
"phase_id": "01",
"aggression_level": "normal"
}
```
**Result:**
- Checks deliverables and done criteria
- Verifies file/directory existence
- Updates checklists in `PHASE-01.md`
- Creates stub files for missing items (if aggression_level allows)
- Updates phase status to "in_progress"
**Output:**
```json
{
"success": true,
"message": "Phase 01 execution completed. 2 tasks complete, 6 pending.",
"phase_id": "01",
"completed_tasks": [
{
"task": "README.md",
"type": "deliverable",
"evidence": "File exists: README.md"
}
],
"pending_tasks": [
{
"task": "Development environment configured",
"type": "deliverable",
"action_taken": "File package.json not found. Needs to be created."
}
],
"changed_files": [
"~/dev/sample-web-app/PHASE-01.md",
"~/dev/sample-web-app/PHASES.md"
],
"status": "in_progress"
}
```
### Step 3: Advance Phase
**Tool**: `overseer.advance_phase`
**Input:**
```json
{
"repo_root": "~/dev/sample-web-app",
"expected_current_phase": "01"
}
```
**Result (if complete):**
- Validates all deliverables and done criteria
- Marks Phase 01 as "locked"
- Activates Phase 02 automatically
- Adds completion summary to `PHASE-01.md`
**Output:**
```json
{
"success": true,
"message": "Phase 01 advanced successfully. Next phase 02 activated.",
"status": "advanced",
"current_phase": {
"id": "01",
"name": "foundation",
"status": "locked"
},
"next_phase": {
"id": "02",
"name": "core_features",
"status": "in_progress"
},
"missing_items": [],
"changes_applied": [
"~/dev/sample-web-app/PHASES.md",
"~/dev/sample-web-app/PHASE-01.md"
]
}
```
**Result (if incomplete):**
- Returns detailed list of missing items
- Keeps phase in "in_progress" status
- Provides specific reasons for each missing item
