# Apache Tool Test Implementation - January 6, 2026
## Overview
Added comprehensive tests for the Apache Tomcat migration tool download and invocation functionality.
## Test Files Created
### 1. Unit Tests
**File:** `src/test/java/unit/jakartamigration/coderefactoring/service/ApacheTomcatMigrationToolTest.java`
**Test Coverage:**
- ✅ Tool availability checking
- ✅ Constructor validation (null paths, non-existent paths)
- ✅ Input validation (null source, null destination, non-existent source)
- ✅ Lazy initialization behavior
- ✅ Error handling for missing tool JAR
**Test Results:** All 8 tests pass ✅
### 2. Integration Tests
**File:** `src/test/java/component/jakartamigration/coderefactoring/service/ApacheTomcatMigrationToolIntegrationTest.java`
**Test Coverage:**
- ✅ Download from Apache website
- ✅ Cache usage (second download should use cache)
- ✅ JAR file migration using Apache tool
- ✅ Timeout handling
- ✅ Migration result structure validation
**Test Characteristics:**
- Conditionally enabled via `@EnabledIf("isApacheToolAvailable")`
- Requires network connectivity
- Requires Java in PATH
- Downloads tool automatically if not cached
- Tests actual tool invocation
## Test Structure
### Unit Tests
- Fast execution (no network calls)
- No external dependencies
- Tests validation and error handling
- Uses `@TempDir` for temporary files
### Integration Tests
- Real download and tool invocation
- Conditionally enabled (skipped if tool unavailable)
- Tests end-to-end functionality
- Verifies actual Apache tool behavior
## Key Features Tested
1. **Download Functionality:**
- Downloads from Apache website
- Uses multiple fallback URLs
- Caches downloaded tool
- Reuses cached tool on subsequent calls
2. **Tool Invocation:**
- Migrates JAR files
- Handles timeouts gracefully
- Returns structured results
- Captures stdout/stderr
3. **Error Handling:**
- Validates input parameters
- Handles missing tool gracefully
- Provides clear error messages
## Test Execution
### Run Unit Tests Only
```bash
gradle test --tests "unit.jakartamigration.coderefactoring.service.ApacheTomcatMigrationToolTest"
```
### Run Integration Tests Only
```bash
gradle test --tests "component.jakartamigration.coderefactoring.service.ApacheTomcatMigrationToolIntegrationTest"
```
### Run All Tests
```bash
gradle test
```
## Test Results
**Unit Tests:** ✅ All 8 tests pass
- Should check if tool is available
- Should throw exception when source path is null
- Should throw exception when source path does not exist
- Should throw exception when destination path is null
- Should throw exception when tool JAR is not found during migration
- Should accept valid tool JAR path in constructor
- Should throw exception when tool JAR path is null in constructor
- Should throw exception when tool JAR path does not exist in constructor
**Integration Tests:** Conditionally enabled
- Will run if Apache tool can be downloaded
- Will be skipped if network unavailable or download fails
## Implementation Details
### Test JAR Creation
Both test files include helper methods to create test JAR files:
- `createTestJar()` - Creates minimal valid JAR structure
- `createTestJarWithJavax()` - Creates JAR with javax references for migration testing
### Conditional Test Execution
Integration tests use `@EnabledIf` annotation to conditionally enable:
- Checks if tool can be downloaded
- Skips tests if download fails
- Prevents test failures due to network issues
## Benefits
1. **Comprehensive Coverage:** Tests both unit-level validation and integration-level functionality
2. **Reliable:** Unit tests are fast and don't depend on external resources
3. **Flexible:** Integration tests are conditionally enabled
4. **Maintainable:** Clear test structure and documentation
5. **CI/CD Ready:** Tests can run in automated pipelines
**Status:** ✅ Implemented and tested
