# Apache Direct Download Implementation - January 6, 2026
## Changes Made
### Removed Environment Variable Requirement
**Before:**
- Required `JAKARTA_MIGRATION_TOOL_PATH` environment variable as primary source
- Checked env var first before attempting download
**After:**
- Environment variable is completely optional (removed from primary flow)
- Downloads directly from Apache website - no configuration needed
- Env var can still be used as override if user wants to use a custom path
### Direct Apache Website Download
**Before:**
- Used GitHub API to detect latest version
- Downloaded from GitHub releases
- Complex version detection logic
**After:**
- Downloads directly from Apache website using known URLs
- Multiple fallback URLs for reliability:
1. Apache archive (official distribution)
2. GitHub releases (Apache hosts releases here)
3. Apache CDN (alternative mirror)
- Uses stable version (1.0.0) - no version detection needed
- Simpler, more reliable download process

### Removed Code
- Removed GitHub API version detection (`getLatestReleaseVersion()`)
- Removed GitHub API URL construction (`getDownloadUrl()`)
- Removed environment variable check from primary flow
- Removed unused imports (Pattern, Matcher, StandardCopyOption)
