roam_find_pages_modified_today

Retrieve pages modified since midnight in your Roam Research graph. Filter by pagination (limit/offset) and sort by modification date ascending or descending. Useful for daily review.

Instructions

Find pages that have been modified today (since midnight), with pagination and sorting options.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
limitNoThe maximum number of pages to retrieve (default: 50). Use -1 for no limit, but be aware that very large result sets can impact performance.
offsetNoThe number of pages to skip before returning matches. Useful for pagination. Defaults to 0.
sort_orderNoSort order for pages based on modification date. "desc" for most recent first, "asc" for oldest first.desc
graphNoTarget graph key from ROAM_GRAPHS config. Defaults to ROAM_DEFAULT_GRAPH. Only needed in multi-graph mode.
write_keyNoWrite confirmation key. Required for write operations on non-default graphs when write_key is configured.
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Despite no annotations, the description clearly indicates the temporal scope (today since midnight) and mentions pagination/sorting. It does not detail return format or performance, but is sufficiently transparent for a read tool.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

A single sentence front-loads the core purpose and key features. Every word earns its place with no redundancy.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With 5 parameters and no output schema or annotations, the description is brief but adequate for a simple retrieval tool. It misses context like what a page constitutes or how modification time is determined, but remains functional.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

All 5 parameters have descriptions in the schema (100% coverage), so the description adds little beyond summarizing 'pagination and sorting'. The description does not introduce new semantics not already in the schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the tool finds pages modified today and includes pagination and sorting. It uses specific verb and resource, differentiating from siblings like roam_search_by_text or roam_fetch_page_by_title.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description implies use for retrieving today's modified pages but does not explicitly state when not to use or compare with alternatives like roam_search_by_date. Adequate but lacks differentiation guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
