create_gaps

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations declare a write operation (readOnlyHint=false) that is not destructive (destructiveHint=false), so the safety profile is covered. The description adds the admin-rights requirement, a useful auth constraint, but does not describe bulk behavior, validation, or return semantics.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Two short sentences, front-loaded with the core action and then the prerequisite. No wasted words.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a bulk-create tool accepting up to 100 nested absence objects with no output schema, the description omits key operational details such as bulk capability, partial-failure behavior, and date-format constraints. It is under-specified for the tool's complexity.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0% at the top level; the description only gives examples of absence types that are already enumerated in the schema's workflow field. It does not explain the required 'gaps' array structure, maxItems=100, or the required nested fields (user, workflow, from, to).

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb 'Create' and resource 'employee absences', and clarifies the jargon 'gaps' with examples (vacation, illness, trip). It implicitly distinguishes from sibling find_gaps and delete_gaps by verb, though it does not name them explicitly.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It provides a prerequisite ('Admin rights required') but no explicit guidance on when to use this tool versus find_gaps, delete_gaps, or other create tools. Usage is implied by the verb and resource.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
