# Job Search MCP Server

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets Claude search AI/ML jobs across Greenhouse, Lever, and Adzuna—plus resume tailoring and referral outreach.

## 1. Clone the Repository

git clone https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/apply_jobs.git
cd apply_jobs
```

Replace `YOUR_USERNAME` with the actual GitHub username or organization.

## 2. Install Dependencies

This project uses `uv` as the package manager.

# Install project dependencies
uv sync

## 3. Get Adzuna API Credentials (Optional but Recommended)

Adzuna powers broader job search (Indeed, Monster, etc.). Free signup:

1. Go to [https://developer.adzuna.com/](https://developer.adzuna.com/)
2. Sign up and create an app
3. Copy your **App ID** and **API Key**

## 4. Connect to Claude Desktop

Add this MCP server to your Claude Desktop config.

**Config file locations:**
- **Windows:** `%APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json`
- **macOS:** `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json`

**Add this block** (merge with existing `mcpServers` if you already have other servers):

**Important:** Replace `C:\\path\\to\\apply_jobs` with the actual path where you cloned the repo (e.g. `C:\\Users\\YourName\\apply_jobs`). Use double backslashes on Windows.

Restart Claude Desktop after saving the config.

## 5. Use It in Claude

Once connected, you can ask Claude things like:

**Job search**
- "Search for AI Engineer jobs at Anthropic and Scale"
- "Find Machine Learning jobs in San Francisco"
- "Show me remote Data Scientist positions"
- "Get the full job description for this URL: [paste link]"

**Resume tailoring**
- "Analyze this job posting and tell me how to tailor my resume: [URL]"
- "What skills should I highlight for this AI Engineer role?"

**Referrals**
- "Help me find referrals at Anthropic for the AI Engineer position"
- "Generate an outreach message for someone at OpenAI"

## Available Tools

| `get_job_details` | Fetch full job description from any URL |
| `tailor_resume_for_job` | Get resume tailoring suggestions for a job |
| `find_referrals` | Generate referral outreach messages and strategies |

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Fix |
|-------|-----|
| "Adzuna API credentials not configured" | Add `ADZUNA_APP_ID` and `ADZUNA_API_KEY` to the config, then restart Claude |
| Server not showing in Claude | Check `cwd` path is correct and points to your clone. Restart Claude fully (quit and reopen) |
| No results | Try broader keywords (e.g. "engineer" instead of "senior staff engineer") |
