browser_find

Read-onlyIdempotent

Lists elements matching a locator across all frames without acting, previewing matches with role, visibility, and coordinates to disambiguate before a click or interaction.

Instructions

Lists, without acting, the elements matching a locator (see browser_click) in all frames.

Response: count, unique (an action would be unambiguous), engine ("ax" = Chrome accessibility tree, "dom"), frames, and for each candidate: role, name, tag, id, frame (frame, crossOriginFrame), visible, enabled, checked/expanded/selected/level, value, box (main viewport coordinates).

TDQS

A3.7/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnly/idempotent/non-destructive, so the description's added value is the cross-frame search behavior ('in all frames') and the semantics of the 'unique' field ('an action would be unambiguous'), which tells the agent how to interpret ambiguity before acting. It does not mention performance costs of scanning all frames or any limits on candidate enumeration.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The first sentence is tightly front-loaded and does real work. The second is a long run-on enumeration of return fields that largely duplicates the existing output schema, so a sizeable share of the text does not earn its place.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With an output schema present, the return-value enumeration was not required, and the description does cover the key behavioral traits (non-mutating, all frames). However, for a tool whose central parameter is an undescribed nested object, the description leaves the locator contract to a sibling tool's docs and gives no guidance on choosing it over browser_axtree.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is only 33%: tab_id is documented, but 'locator' is an opaque nested object with additionalProperties and 'limit' is bare. The description partially compensates by redirecting locator syntax to browser_click, but it says nothing about limit or the locator's accepted keys, so the most important parameter remains undocumented in both places.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Lists ... the elements matching a locator') and adds the crucial scope qualifier 'without acting', which is exactly what separates it from browser_click. The parenthetical pointer to browser_click anchors the locator concept, so an agent can identify the tool without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

'without acting' implies this is a pre-flight inspection step before browser_click/browser_fill, but the description never says when to prefer it over browser_axtree or browser_vision_inspect, nor any when-not condition. Usage must be inferred from the name and the contrast with acting tools.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
