hyprland-mcp

reset_sunset

Reset hyprsunset override(s) to match the current time-based profile. Supports resetting all, temperature, gamma, or identity settings.

Instructions

Reset hyprsunset override(s) back to whatever the current time-based profile specifies. NOTE: a Hyprland forum bug report (hyprsunset v0.3.3) found this specific command returns 'invalid command' while temperature/identity/gamma work fine — if you hit that, there's no clean workaround short of manually calling set_sunset_temperature/set_sunset_gamma/disable_sunset_filter with the values your profile should have at the current time.

Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Without annotations, the description fully discloses the tool's behavior, including a known bug where the command may return 'invalid command', and provides a detailed workaround.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is front-loaded with the main purpose, but the lengthy bug report note reduces conciseness. While the note is valuable, it could be more succinct.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

The description covers the tool's purpose, behavior, and potential errors, which is adequate for a simple reset tool with one parameter. However, it does not explain what happens if the current time-based profile is not defined.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% with the parameter description already explaining the enum options. The tool description adds minimal extra meaning beyond restating the schema's description.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the tool resets hyprsunset overrides to the current time-based profile, which distinguishes it from sibling tools that set specific values (e.g., set_sunset_temperature) or disable the filter.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description explains when to use the tool and includes a bug report with a workaround, but does not explicitly state when not to use it or list alternatives beyond the workaround.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
