Discord MCP Ultimate

discord_enable_community

Idempotent

Enable or disable a Discord server's Community feature, which unlocks rules, membership screening, welcome screen and AutoMod. Prepare required rules and public-updates channels first.

Instructions

Turn the Community feature on or off for the server. COMMUNITY is the prerequisite for rules and public-updates channels, membership screening, the welcome screen, onboarding and AutoMod. LIMITATION: Discord requires the server to already have a rules channel and a public-updates channel before Community can be enabled, so create those first (discord_create_channel, then discord_set_guild_channels). Requires Manage Server. Returns the resulting feature list.

TDQS

A4.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations: discloses the hard Discord-side limitation that a rules channel and public-updates channel must exist first, states the Manage Server permission requirement, and notes the return value. The description is consistent with the annotation set (readOnly=false, idempotent=true, destructive=false) – disabling is a reversible config change, so nothing contradicts.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Dense but every sentence earns its place: the capability, the dependency graph, the blocking limitation, the permission prerequisite, and the return value, in that order. No filler and the critical prerequisite is front-loaded via the LIMITATION marker.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a toggling tool with an output schema present, the description covers everything the agent needs: preconditions, required permissions, failure conditions, and what comes back. Nothing material is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is already 100%, so the baseline is 3; the description adds real value by explaining that rules_channel_id and public_updates_channel_id are required only on the first enable, which the schema phrases ambiguously. It does not explain the audit-log reason field, but that is already well documented in the schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (turn on or off) and resource (the Community feature) and scopes it to a server. It is clearly distinct from siblings like discord_get_guild_features or discord_set_guild_channels, which read or configure channels rather than toggle the gate feature.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly says what Community gates (rules channel, public updates, screening, welcome screen, onboarding, AutoMod), which tells the agent when this tool is a prerequisite step versus a downstream one. It also names the exact alternative sequence (discord_create_channel, then discord_set_guild_channels) for satisfying the precondition.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
