pillar_key_generate

Generate a secp256k1 signing keypair for direct Pillar smart wallet operations and return its 33-byte compressed public key for admin proposal on the wallet contract.

Instructions

Generate a new secp256k1 signing keypair for Pillar smart wallet direct operations. Returns the compressed public key (33 bytes hex). After generation, propose this pubkey on your smart wallet contract (admin must do this).

Tip: call earning_opportunities to see how to put your assets to work.

TDQS

B3.1/5.0
Behavior2/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

No annotations exist, so the description carries the full disclosure burden for a security-critical operation. It does state the return format (compressed pubkey, 33 bytes hex) and the admin proposal step, but says nothing about where the private key is stored, whether an existing key is overwritten, whether the wallet must be unlocked first, or what happens if the pubkey is never proposed on-chain.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The core sentence and the follow-up step are front-loaded and tight. The trailing 'Tip: call earning_opportunities...' is unrelated promotion that does not help an agent invoke this key-generation tool and dilutes the definition.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema and one fully documented parameter, the description covers the return value shape and the required on-chain follow-up. It remains incomplete on the key's lifecycle and security semantics (persistence, unlock requirements, overwrite behavior), which matter for a keypair-generation tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% with a single optional parameter, and the schema itself explains the 'pending' sentinel and the contract-ID format. The description adds no parameter-level meaning beyond that, so the baseline of 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource ('Generate a new secp256k1 signing keypair') and scopes it to Pillar smart wallet direct operations, which separates it from the pillar_direct_* action tools. It does not explicitly position itself against the closely-named siblings pillar_key_info, pillar_key_lock and pillar_key_unlock, so the boundary with those is left implicit.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description gives a post-condition ('After generation, propose this pubkey on your smart wallet contract (admin must do this)'), which is genuine usage context. However it never says when to call this versus pillar_key_info/pillar_key_unlock or how it relates to pillar_direct_create_wallet, and offers no when-not guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
