Create Page from Template

confluence_create_page_from_template

Create a Confluence Cloud page pre-filled with a selected template's storage-format body, optionally under a parent page. Specify space, title, and template ID to start from a consistent structure.

Instructions

Create a new Cloud page pre-populated with a template's body.

This operation is only available for Confluence Cloud. Fetches the named template and creates a page with its storage-format content. The page can be edited afterwards via confluence_update_page.

parent_idNoOptional ID of the parent page.
space_keyYesKey of the space in which to create the page.

TDQS

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnly=false, destructive=false, idempotent=false and openWorld=true, so the safety profile is covered; the description adds genuinely new context by disclosing Cloud-only availability and that the body is storage-format content. It does not mention permission requirements or behavior when the template ID is invalid, which keeps it below a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three short sentences with the core action front-loaded and the Cloud-only caveat immediately after. No wasted prose, though the unusual double-spacing and mid-sentence line breaks are mildly untidy.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, so return values need not be explained; the description covers the Cloud-only constraint, the source of the page body, and the natural follow-up tool. For a four-parameter create operation, nothing essential to correct invocation is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so all four parameters are documented in the schema and the baseline is 3. The description adds little per-parameter detail, and 'Fetches the named template' is slightly at odds with template_id, which is an identifier rather than a name.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description names a specific verb and resource (create a new Cloud page) and adds the distinguishing qualifier 'pre-populated with a template's body', which separates it from the plain confluence_create_page. It stops short of naming that sibling explicitly, so an agent must infer the split.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives a hard applicability constraint ('only available for Confluence Cloud') and a follow-up route ('can be edited afterwards via confluence_update_page'), which is real routing guidance. It never states when to prefer confluence_create_page over this tool, so the choice between blank-page and template creation is left implicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
