analyze_for_slate

Run AI-powered analysis on clips or folders to detect and mark slates with colored markers.

Instructions

Run AI Slate analysis on a clip or folder, marking detected slates.

Operates on a single clip (clip_name), a folder (folder_path), or the current Media Pool folder if neither is given. Requires the 'AI Slate ID' package from the Extras Download Manager.

Args: marker_color: Color of the markers to place at detected slates. One of: Blue, Cyan, Green, Yellow, Red, Pink, Purple, Fuchsia, Rose, Lavender, Sky, Mint, Lemon, Sand, Cocoa, Cream. clip_name: Name of a clip in the current folder to analyze. folder_path: Slash-separated folder path (e.g. 'Master/A-Cam') to analyze.

Behavior2/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

No annotations are provided, so the description must fully disclose behavioral traits. It explains the tool modifies clips by adding markers (destructive), but does not state if it overwrites existing markers, side effects on clip metadata, error behavior, or if it is a read-only operation. It also does not confirm whether it returns results.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Description is concise with a clear structure: purpose sentence followed by bullet-like args. Some redundancy like 'if neither is given' could be trimmed, but overall efficient.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given 3 parameters, output schema exists, and no nested objects, the description covers the basics. However, it lacks details on failure modes (e.g., clip not found), and assumes the user understands 'AI Slate ID' package. Adequate but not thorough.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 0%, so description compensates well. It lists allowed marker colors (though not as enums in schema), explains clip_name as a clip in current folder, and folder_path as slash-separated path. This adds significant meaning beyond the schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Description clearly states it runs AI Slate analysis and marks detected slates. The verb 'run' and resource 'AI Slate analysis' are specific, and it distinguishes from sibling analyze_for_intellisearch by focusing on slates.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Description mentions three operating modes and the prerequisite package, but does not explicitly contrast with alternative tools like analyze_for_intellisearch or provide when-not-to-use guidance. Usage context is implied but not fully explicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
