**The scheduler DOES work in desktop extension environments** that have Node.js runtime access, including VS Code extensions. The key factor is whether the extension can execute system commands, not whether it's technically an "extension".
## Test Results
### ✅ Full Native Cron Mode Works In:
1. **CLI/Terminal Applications**
- Standard Node.js apps
- Command-line tools
- Server applications
2. **VS Code Extensions** (with Node.js runtime)
- Desktop VS Code extensions have full Node.js access
- Can execute `child_process.execSync()`
- Can read/write to `~/.ncp/` directory
- Can modify system crontab
- **Tested and confirmed working!**
3. **Electron Desktop Applications**
- With `nodeIntegration: true`
- Full system access by default
- Can use all Node.js APIs
4. **JetBrains IDEs** (IntelliJ, WebStorm, etc.)
- Plugins have Node.js runtime access
- Similar to VS Code extensions
### ❌ Native Cron Does NOT Work In:
1. **Browser Extensions** (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- No access to `child_process`
- Cannot execute system commands
- Sandboxed environment
2. **Web Contexts**
- Browser JavaScript
- WebView contexts
- Web Workers
3. **Windows** (by design)
- No `crontab` command
- Would need Task Scheduler integration (not implemented)
