# Authentication System Implementation Summary
## ✅ Implementation Complete
All features from the plan have been successfully implemented. The application now has a full-featured authentication system with user management and admin portal.
## What Was Built
### 1. ✅ Dependencies Installed
- `next-auth@latest` - Authentication framework
- `bcryptjs` - Password hashing
- `resend` - Email service for verification
### 2. ✅ Database Schema
**Location**: `scripts/migrate-users-table.sql`
Created `users` table with:
- User credentials (username, email, password)
- Profile info (first name, last name, DOB, gender)
- Market expertise level (0-1, 1-5, 5-10, 10+ years)
- Role management (user/admin)
- Email verification system
- Google OAuth integration support
- Default admin user (username: `admin`, password: `admin123`)
**Updated**: `lib/db.ts` with User interface and helper methods
### 3. ✅ Authentication System (NextAuth.js)
**Location**: `app/api/auth/[...nextauth]/route.ts`
Features:
- **Credentials Provider**: Email + Password login
- **Google OAuth Provider**: One-click Google sign-in
- Custom callbacks for:
- Auto-creating users from Google OAuth
- Blocking unverified email users
- Adding role and user ID to session
- Linking Google accounts to existing users
### 4. ✅ Registration Flow

## Next Steps for User

4. Automatically logged in
**Access Admin Portal**:

2. Click "Admin" in navigation
3. Manage users at `/admin/users`

## Known Limitations
1. **Email Verification Required**: Users registering with credentials must verify email before login. Google OAuth users bypass this.
2. **Single Admin Domain**: Email verification requires a verified domain on Resend (or use `onboarding@resend.dev` for testing).
3. **No Password Reset**: Password reset functionality not implemented (can be added as future enhancement).
4. **No Profile Editing**: Users cannot edit their profile after registration (can be added as future enhancement).
