# Schema Alignment Summary
## Overview
Successfully aligned the TypeScript MCP Memory service with the existing Turso production database schema. The TypeScript code now works correctly with the actual database structure without requiring schema migrations.
## Key Changes Made
### 1. User Table Alignment
- **Column Fix**: Changed from `api_key` to `api_key_hash`
- **Security Enhancement**: Implemented SHA-256 hashing for API keys
- **Compatibility**: Added support for both hashed and legacy plaintext keys during migration
### 2. Entity Table Alignment
- **Primary Key**: Entities use UUID strings, not auto-incrementing integers
- **Contact Info**: Consolidated `email`, `phone`, `address` into single `contact_info` JSON column
- **Removed Columns**: The database doesn't have `website`, `social_media`, `importance`, `relationships`, `last_interaction`, `interaction_count` columns
- **Actual Columns Used**: `id`, `user_id`, `name`, `entity_type`, `person_type`, `description`, `first_name`, `last_name`, `company`, `title`, `contact_info`, `notes`, `tags`, `metadata`, `active`, `created_at`, `updated_at`
### 3. Memory Table Alignment
- **Primary Key**: Memories use UUID strings for IDs
- **No Python Fields**: The database doesn't have `description`, `details`, or `uuid` columns (migration not applied)
- **Actual Columns Used**: `id`, `user_id`, `title`, `content`, `memory_type`, `importance`, `tags`, `entity_ids`, `embedding`, `metadata`, `is_archived`, `active`, `created_at`, `updated_at`
### 4. Compatibility Layer (`src/database/compatibility.ts`)
Created a comprehensive compatibility layer providing:
- **Field Mapping**: Automatic conversion between TypeScript camelCase and database snake_case
- **UUID Generation**: Proper UUID v4 generation for entity and memory IDs
- **API Key Security**: Hashing and verification utilities
- **Contact Info Handling**: JSON serialization/deserialization for contact information
- **Python API Compatibility**: Transform methods for Python/TypeScript field name differences
### 5. Updated Database Operations (`src/database/operations.ts`)
- **Import Compatibility Layer**: Uses `SchemaCompatibility` and `ApiKeySecurity` classes
- **Fixed User Operations**: Proper handling of `api_key_hash` column
- **Fixed Entity Operations**: UUID generation and `contact_info` JSON handling
- **Fixed Memory Operations**: UUID generation and proper column usage
- **Updated Mapping Methods**: Use compatibility layer for field transformations
## Test Results
### Schema Alignment Test (`scripts/test-schema-alignment.ts`)
✅ All tests pass:
- User CRUD operations with API key hashing
- Entity CRUD with contact_info JSON storage
- Memory CRUD with UUID primary keys
- Compatibility layer functions
- Python API transformations
### MCP Integration Test (`scripts/test-mcp-integration.ts`)
✅ All MCP server operations work:
- Memory storage and retrieval
- Memory search functionality
- Statistics gathering
- JSON-RPC protocol compliance
## Files Modified
1. `src/database/operations.ts` - Core database operations
2. `src/database/compatibility.ts` - Schema compatibility layer (existing)
3. `scripts/test-schema-alignment.ts` - Comprehensive schema tests (new)
4. `scripts/test-mcp-integration.ts` - MCP server integration tests (new)
## Files NOT Modified (Work As-Is)
- `src/desktop-mcp-server.ts` - MCP server implementation
- `src/core/memory-core.ts` - Core memory logic
- `src/models/schemas.ts` - Zod validation schemas
- `src/types/base.ts` - TypeScript type definitions
## Migration Not Required
The unified migration script (`scripts/unified-migration.ts`) was created but is NOT required because:
- The TypeScript code now works with the existing database schema
- No schema changes are needed
- Full backward compatibility is maintained
## Production Ready
The system is now production-ready with:
- ✅ Correct schema alignment
- ✅ API key security (hashing)
- ✅ UUID primary keys
- ✅ JSON field handling
- ✅ Full CRUD operations
- ✅ MCP protocol compliance
- ✅ Claude Desktop compatibility
## Next Steps (Optional)
1. Consider running the migration script if Python compatibility columns are needed
2. Add OpenAI API key for vector embedding support
3. Deploy to production environment
4. Configure Claude Desktop to use the MCP server
