# MCP Sub-Agent Tool Inheritance Fix
## Overview
This document describes the fix for the critical issue where MCP tools were not available in Task sub-agents, resulting in an 83% failure rate.
## Problem Statement
### Issue
- **Failure Rate**: 83% of MCP operations in sub-agents failed
- **Root Cause**: Task agents spawned by Claude Code's main agent don't inherit MCP configuration or tool registrations
- **Impact**: MCP effectively unusable in production environments where Task agents are used for parallel operations

## Solution Architecture
### Components
#### 1. MCP Configuration Propagator (`mcp_server/core/mcp_config_propagator.py`)
Handles the serialization and propagation of MCP configuration from parent to sub-agents.

- Automatically finds and loads `.mcp.json` configuration
- Serializes configuration into environment variables
- Provides validation to ensure propagation will work
- Supports configuration restoration
#### 2. Sub-Agent Helper (`mcp_server/utils/sub_agent_helper.py`)
Provides utilities for sub-agents to inherit and use MCP tools.
**Key Features:**
- Detects sub-agent context automatically
- Deserializes inherited configuration from environment
- Registers inherited tools as callable functions
- Provides tool availability validation

Manages the propagation of tool definitions between agents.
