# Cloudflare Workers Deployment - Summary
**Deployment Date:** 2026-01-29
**Status:** ✅ Production Live
**URL:** https://eu-regulations-mcp.jeffreyrotz.workers.dev
## What Was Deployed
### Infrastructure
- **Runtime:** Cloudflare Workers (Free Tier)
- **Database:** Neon PostgreSQL (512MB, eu-central-1)
- **CDN:** Cloudflare Global Network (300+ locations)
- **Rate Limiting:** 100 requests/hour per IP (in-memory, fixed-window)
### Data
- **Regulations:** 47 EU regulations
- **Articles:** 2,438 articles
- **Recitals:** 3,712 recitals
- **Definitions:** 1,138 definitions
- **Total Rows:** 8,372 rows migrated from SQLite
### API Endpoints
1. `GET /` - API documentation
2. `GET /health` - Health check with database status
3. `GET /tools` - Tool discovery (9 tools)
4. `POST /api/tool` - Execute tools
### Security Features
- ✅ CORS validation (4 allowed origins)
- ✅ Input validation (type checking, size limits)
- ✅ Request size limits (100KB max)
- ✅ Database query timeouts (10s protection)
- ✅ Error message sanitization (no info leakage)
- ✅ Rate limiting with headers
## Performance Characteristics
### Response Times (Production)
- **Health check:** ~50-100ms (warm)
- **List regulations:** ~100-200ms
- **Search queries:** ~500-800ms (PostgreSQL FTS without indexes)
- **Article retrieval:** ~50-150ms
- **Cold start:** 5-10s (Neon serverless initialization)
### Cost Analysis
- **Cloudflare Workers:** $0/month (Free tier: 100k req/day)
- **Neon PostgreSQL:** $0/month (Free tier: 512MB, 100 hours compute)
- **Total:** $0/month for moderate usage
## Integration Points
### ChatGPT
- Custom GPT Actions
- Direct API calls from ChatGPT Enterprise
### GitHub Copilot
- Copilot Chat API calls
- Copilot Extensions
### Direct HTTP
- Any HTTP client (curl, Postman, etc.)
- Rate limited by IP address
## Known Limitations
1. **Rate Limiting:** In-memory, resets on Worker restart
2. **Search Performance:** No PostgreSQL indexes yet (~800ms queries)
3. **Cold Starts:** First request after idle may take 5-10s (Neon)
4. **CORS:** Limited to 4 allowed origins (chatgpt.com, github.com, etc.)
## Future Enhancements (Not Implemented)
- Monitoring & Analytics (Task 8)
- Integration Tests for deployed Worker (Task 9)
- Custom domain setup (mcp.ansvar.eu)
- PostgreSQL FTS indexes (would reduce search to <100ms)
- Cloudflare D1 caching layer (for sub-50ms responses)
- Distributed rate limiting (Durable Objects or KV)
## Files Added/Modified
### New Files
- `src/worker.ts` - Cloudflare Worker entry point (471 lines)
- `src/database/postgres-adapter.ts` - PostgreSQL adapter (85 lines)
- `src/middleware/rate-limit.ts` - Rate limiter (105 lines)
- `wrangler.toml` - Cloudflare Workers configuration
- `docs/remote-usage.md` - API usage guide
- `docs/http-api.md` - Complete API reference (337 lines)
- `SECURITY-FIXES.md` - Security review documentation
- `test-security.sh` - Security test suite
### Modified Files
- 9 tool files migrated from SQLite to DatabaseAdapter
- `.gitignore` - Added `.dev.vars` and `.wrangler/`
- `package.json` - Updated scripts
## Deployment Steps Taken
1. ✅ Migrated SQLite to Neon PostgreSQL (8,372 rows, 100% verified)
2. ✅ Created PostgreSQL adapter with connection pooling
3. ✅ Added rate limiting middleware (fixed-window, 100 req/hour)
4. ✅ Migrated all 9 tools to database adapter
5. ✅ Implemented Cloudflare Worker with HTTP API
6. ✅ Fixed 6 critical security issues (CORS, validation, timeouts)
7. ✅ Registered workers.dev subdomain (jeffreyrotz.workers.dev)
8. ✅ Deployed to production with DATABASE_URL secret
9. ✅ Verified all endpoints working
10. ✅ Created comprehensive documentation
## Rollback Procedure
If needed, rollback to SQLite-based local deployment:
```bash
# 1. Stop using remote Worker
# 2. Use local MCP server
npm run dev
# 3. SQLite database still intact at data/regulations.db
# 4. No changes to core packages
```
## Maintenance
### Monitoring
- Check https://dash.cloudflare.com for Worker metrics
- Check https://console.neon.tech for database health
- Worker logs available in Cloudflare dashboard
### Updates
```bash
# Make changes
git checkout feature/cloudflare-workers-deployment
# Edit files
npm run build
npx wrangler deploy --env production
```
### Database
- Neon credentials rotated (old password invalidated)
- New password stored in Cloudflare Workers secrets
- Local development uses `.dev.vars` (gitignored)
