# Oracle Database Setup - Complete ✓
## Summary
The Oracle database has been successfully set up and is running in Docker. All components are configured and working correctly.
## What Was Completed
### 1. Docker Container ✓
- **Container Name**: `db-mcp-oracle-test`
- **Image**: `gvenzl/oracle-xe:21-slim` (Oracle XE 21c)
- **Status**: Running and healthy
- **Port**: `1521` exposed on `localhost`
### 2. Database Configuration ✓
- **Service Name**: `XEPDB1`
- **Database User**: `testuser`
- **Password**: `testpass`
- **Test Table**: `test_users` created with 3 sample records
### 3. Sample Data ✓
```sql
ID USERNAME EMAIL
-- --------- -------------------
1 alice alice@example.com
2 bob bob@example.com
3 charlie charlie@example.com
```
### 4. Configuration Files ✓
- `config.json` - Contains `oracle_dev` connection (already configured)
- `docker-compose.oracle.yml` - Docker setup
- `ORACLE_SETUP.md` - Complete setup guide
- `test-oracle.sh` - Verification script
## Verification Results
All tests **PASSED** ✓
```
✓ Container is running
✓ Port 1521 is listening
✓ Connection successful
✓ Test data queryable
```
## Current Issue
**The db-mcp-server MCP tools cannot connect to Oracle yet.**
**Reason**: The MCP server process was started before the Oracle database was ready. The MCP server loads database connections at startup and currently doesn't see the `oracle_dev` connection.
## Solution: Restart OpenCode
**You need to restart OpenCode** to reload the MCP server with the Oracle connection.
### After Restarting OpenCode:
You can test the Oracle database using these MCP tools:
```bash
# List all databases (should include oracle_dev)
db-mcp-server_list_databases
# Get Oracle schema
db-mcp-server_schema_oracle_dev
# Query test data
db-mcp-server_query_oracle_dev
Query: SELECT * FROM test_users ORDER BY id
# Test simple query
db-mcp-server_query_oracle_dev
Query: SELECT 'Hello from Oracle!' as message FROM dual
# Execute data modifications
db-mcp-server_execute_oracle_dev
Statement: INSERT INTO test_users (id, username, email) VALUES (4, 'diana', 'diana@example.com')
# Transaction management
db-mcp-server_transaction_oracle_dev
Action: begin
# Performance analysis
db-mcp-server_performance_oracle_dev
Action: getMetrics
```
## Quick Reference
### Connection Details
```json
{
"id": "oracle_dev",
"type": "oracle",
"host": "localhost",
"port": 1521,
"service_name": "XEPDB1",
"user": "testuser",
"password": "testpass"
}
```
### Management Commands
```bash
# View logs
docker logs db-mcp-oracle-test -f
# Stop database
docker-compose -f docker-compose.oracle.yml down
# Start database
docker-compose -f docker-compose.oracle.yml up -d
# Test connection (without MCP)
./test-oracle.sh
# Connect with SQL*Plus
docker exec -it db-mcp-oracle-test sqlplus testuser/testpass@XEPDB1
# Reset database (removes all data)
docker-compose -f docker-compose.oracle.yml down -v
docker-compose -f docker-compose.oracle.yml up -d
```

## Next Steps
1. ✓ Oracle database is running
2. ✓ Test data is loaded
3. ✓ Configuration is correct
4. **→ Restart OpenCode** to reload MCP server
5. Test with MCP tools: `db-mcp-server_query_oracle_dev`
---
**Status**: Oracle database is fully operational and ready to use. Restart OpenCode to enable MCP access.
