# Refinement Phase 1B — Entitlement & Persistence Verification

## Changes Made
### 1. KV Connection Verification
- Added `isKvConnected()` and `debugKvRoundTrip()` to `src/lib/kv.ts`
- Added first-access logging: "KV: connected" or "KV: fallback (in-memory)"
- Created `/api/debug/kv` diagnostic endpoint — verified live: returns `kvConnected: false`
### 2. Stripe Webhook Hardening
- Rewrote `src/app/api/webhook/route.ts`:
- Structured `[WEBHOOK]` logging for every event with type, customer, result
- Missing `STRIPE_SECRET_KEY` → 500 with clear error (no crash)
- Missing/placeholder `STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET` → 200 with warning log
- KV write failures caught per-operation, still returns 200 to Stripe
- Added `customer.subscription.updated` handler
- Stripe SDK instantiation wrapped in try/catch
### 3. Entitlement Resolution Hardening
- `resolveUserTier()` now has full try/catch, always defaults to free on error
- Added `[ENTITLEMENT]` structured logging with masked key, tier, source
- Rate limit failures are fail-open (allow request, log error)
### 4. Failure Safety Audit
- All KV calls in `kv.ts` wrapped with try/catch + memory fallback
- `checkRateLimitKV` falls through to memory on KV error
- `checkRateLimit` in rate-limit.ts catches errors and allows request
- Webhook never crashes — all paths return HTTP response
### 5. Documentation
- Created `docs/ENTITLEMENT_ARCHITECTURE.md` with data flow, key structure, failure modes, ASCII diagram
## Deployment
- Build: ✅ Clean
- Deploy: ✅ https://groombacklog.com
- `/api/debug/kv`: ✅ Returns `kvConnected: false` (expected — KV env vars not yet configured)
- `/api/groom`: ⚠️ Returns Anthropic auth error — pre-existing issue with ANTHROPIC_API_KEY on Vercel (not related to 1B changes)
## Next Steps
- Configure KV env vars on Vercel (KV_REST_API_URL, KV_REST_API_TOKEN, etc.)
- Configure STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET
- Investigate ANTHROPIC_API_KEY env var issue
- Re-test `/api/debug/kv` after KV env vars are set
- Remove `/api/debug/kv` after verification
