# xoomar-mcp

An [MCP](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server that gives AI agents the [XOOMAR](https://xoomar.com/markets) free market data API as tools: 26 tools over 31 datasets built from primary sources (SEC EDGAR and XBRL, FINRA, CFTC, the Federal Reserve, USAspending, exchange APIs). No key needed to start.

## Use it

**Hosted, nothing to install:** `https://xoomar.com/mcp` (Streamable HTTP). Add it as a remote MCP server or custom connector in Claude.ai, Claude Code (`claude mcp add --transport http xoomar https://xoomar.com/mcp`), ChatGPT, Cursor or any client that connects by URL. Send `Authorization: Bearer <key>` or `X-API-Key` with a free account key for 30 requests a minute; without one the limit is 10 a minute per IP. Keyless and free-key requests return up to six months of history.

**Local, over stdio:** Claude Desktop (`claude_desktop_config.json`), Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf and any other MCP client that launches stdio servers:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "xoomar": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "xoomar-mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

Claude Code, one line:

```bash
claude mcp add xoomar -- npx -y xoomar-mcp
```

As a library (the hosted endpoint is built this way):

```ts
import { buildServer } from "xoomar-mcp";
const server = buildServer({ apiKey: "xm_live_...", maxRows: 100 }); // an McpServer with the 26 tools; connect any transport
```

Optional environment for the stdio bin: `XOOMAR_API_KEY` (a free account key from https://xoomar.com/signup raises the limit from 10 to 30 requests a minute; keyless and free-key requests return up to six months of history), `XOOMAR_MAX_ROWS` (rows per tool result, default 200).

## Development

```bash
npm install
npm test        # builds, then talks to the server over stdio (one test hits the live API)
TDQS
A3.8/5.0
Scored across 26 tools
Disambiguation5/5
Each tool targets a distinct dataset with clear boundaries: short_interest vs short_volume, large_holders vs fund_holders, fails_to_deliver vs threshold_list. Descriptions explicitly differentiate similar concepts, so an agent can reliably select the right tool.
Naming Consistency5/5
All 26 tools follow a uniform snake_case noun-phrase pattern (e.g., policy_rates, insider_clusters, treasury_auctions). No mixed casing or verb variations; the naming is predictable and domain-aligned.
Tool Count4/5
At 26 tools, the count is slightly above the ideal range, but the breadth of financial data (rates, equities, crypto, macro, insider activity) justifies each tool. It feels like a comprehensive API wrapper rather than a bloated set.
Completeness4/5
The set covers major financial datasets with query options (history, latest, filters) and includes an api_reference tool for uncovered queries. Missing areas like options or bond pricing are not core to the server's stated scope, so gaps are manageable.
