Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
VALXOS_SELFNoName each house. Set in the launcher of every harness that starts the server or the hooks, so that each harness speaks under its own name. Without it every session on the machine speaks under the hostname and shares one name; `whoami` shows the name in use. Give each harness its own name: a CLI or MCP client that uses a Claude Code lineage's name does not read that lineage's mail while one of its chairs is alive.
CC2CC_MAISONSNoHistorical alias for VALXOS_MAISONS.
CC2CC_V2_HOMENoHistorical alias for VALXOS_MESSENGER_HOME; loses when both variables are set.
VALXOS_MAISONSNoColon-separated absolute paths to the Claude Code installation directories the courier scans to discover live chairs. Written out in full as `echo "$HOME/.claude"` prints them: neither `~` nor `$HOME` is expanded in this value. This declaration replaces the default list (~/.claude and, when set, $CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR); it does not add to it.
CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIRNoScanned by the courier in addition to ~/.claude by default, to discover live Claude Code chairs. Ignored when VALXOS_MAISONS is set (put the path in that declaration instead).
VALXOS_SESSION_NAMENoSet alongside VALXOS_SELF if you want per-session names instead of one name per house.
VALXOS_MESSENGER_HOMENoMoves the default runtime directory (~/.valxos-messenger). An empty value counts as unset and says so on stderr. When both VALXOS_MESSENGER_HOME and CC2CC_V2_HOME are set, this one wins.
